Anti-sweat injections are a non-surgical treatment that help provide relief from excess sweating often referred to as hyperhidrosis. Patients who have had no success with antiperspirants or other forms of treatment may be excellent candidates for Botox injections. The injection inhibits the sweat gland from producing sweat, and provides a dryer, more comfortable experience for our patients.
When Botox is injected into the skin, it blocks the signals between the nerve endings and the sweat glands of the skin. This stops the glands from producing sweat. During a quick in office appointment, we will administer Botox in a grid like pattern, in the area to be treated. You will be given the option of having a numbing cream applied to the treatment areas 30 minutes before the treatment takes place. Patients can return to work and normal activities straight away.
Excessive sweating treatments are very effective at reducing the amount that you sweat. The results can take 3-5 days to take effect. It is important to note that this treatment will not stop you from sweating completely and your body will still be able to regulate its temperature. Results last between 3-6 months at a time, at which point patients come in for follow up injections.
