Pores are the very small openings found in our skin that allow perspiration and oils to reach the surface. As we age, our skin becomes less elastic causing pores to lose shape and enlarge. Enlarged pores are also common among teenagers during years where more sebum (skin oils) are produced as a result of hormonal changes. It is common to see enlarged pores in areas like the nose, forehead and chin, also known as the “T zone”. While they are not a medical concern, the rough, dull texture that accompanies large pores can be of aesthetic concern.
